Confluences and Divergences - The Post Natyam Collective featuring Shyamala Moorth

The Post Natyam Collective is a transnational, web-based coalition of South Asian trained dance artists whose work triangulates between art-making, activism, and theory. Confluences and Divergences offers a retrospective of Post Natyam dance-for-camera pieces and elements from the performance installation Back to the Beautiful designed by Sandra Chatterjee and Cynthia Ling Lee. It also features a live solo performance RISE by Shyamala Moorty. In RISE, a South Asian American woman transforms into a fierce household goddess wielding a plunger as her only weapon. The event will culminate in a participatory dialogue and marks the opening of the “Interrogating South Asia” Graduate Student Conference at UCI (11-12 Oct, 2019).
