GUIDELINES

Staging

To distinguish the UC Irvine logo, it is preferred that the logo be surrounded on all sides by clear space. This clear space provides graphic impact and preserves equity in the mark by separating the logo distinctly from all other graphic elements and document edges.

To determine the desired clear space, it is suggested to use the height of the capital "I" in the UC Irvine logo. One-half the I-height is the minimum space suggested to surround the logo, while the full I-height is preferred. For boxed-logo variations, the staging distance is measured from the edge of the box.

Combining logos

Generally, the UC Irvine logo should be used alone. When it is necessary to use a logo in addition to the UC Irvine logo, the two logos should not be used in the same visual field.

Other general guidelines
  • Proportions of the logo should be maintained.
  • The logo should not be screened or made translucent.
  • Forms within the logo should not be shadowed, beveled, outlined, skewed or texturized.
  • Do not extrude or distort the logo in perspective space.
  • Fade-ins and other transitions can be used for interest on Web sites; however, the logo should not be animated.
  • Do not add a border or geometric shape to the logo.
  • Always be sure there is adequate contrast between the logo and the field on which it appears. In most instances, an unboxed logo can be used on a clean, uncluttered background. For use within a photograph or otherwise uneven or cluttered background, a boxed logo is preferred.
