| Background: | In the past 15 years, the Web has become the main system for sharing information on the Internet. Web applications are changing the way we get news, build social networks and elect government officials. As the Web continues to change, what's next? How will future uses of the Web affect our lives? Can we take the Web for granted, or might it someday disappear? Hall's talk will cover these questions. Hall, whose research merges life and physical sciences, has contributed greatly to the understanding of how people work with the Web. She is founding co-director of the Web Science Research Initiative (http://webscience.org/) and has published more than 400 papers on topics such as multimedia, digital libraries and Web technologies. |
