UCI medical geneticist to speak on autism, new research
| Event: | UC Irvine medical geneticist Dr. John Jay Gargus will discuss “The Autism Spectrum: Recent Scientific Advances” as part of the Dick & Mary Allen Lecture Series at UCI’s Newkirk Center for Science & Society. Gargus, professor of pediatrics and physiology & biophysics, will talk about autism research at UCI, the disorder’s metabolic and environmental roots, and the potential for new diagnostics and therapies. |

| Background: | Gargus earned a medical degree at Yale University and completed a residency in pediatrics and a fellowship in medical genetics at Yale-New Haven Hospital. His research focuses on neurological disorders that include autism and migraines. The National Institutes of Health, Autism Speaks and the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation have supported his autism work, and Gargus has received awards from the American Heart Association and the National Headache Foundation. |
