UC Irvine Healthcare is the clinical entity of University of California, Irvine Health Sciences and is comprised of UC Irvine Medical Center and the University Physicians & Surgeons, a faculty practice organization.
UC Irvine Medical Center is a world-class academic medical center with more than 400 specialty and primary care physicians. - UC Irvine stem cell researcher Hans Keirstead, Ph.D., was the first in the world to differentiate embryonic stem cells to repair damaged tissue in spinal cord injuries.
- Carl Cotman, Ph.D., director of the Institute for Brain Aging and Dementia at UC Irvine, discovered that vitamin nutrients coupled with regular exercise can stave off the onset of neurodegenerative diseases.
- UC Irvine researcher Eric Stanbridge, Ph.D., discovered tumor suppressor genes, which are now used to screen for cervical cancer.
Expanding its clinical research worldwide, UC Irvine is collaborating with other international academic institutions to develop therapies and cures.
