THE UC IRVINE LIBRARIES
The UC Irvine Libraries serve the research needs of the campus and the community, fostering the creation and dissemination of knowledge by bringing people and information together in new and innovative ways. With the proliferation of scholarly information in electronic and print sources, librarians increasingly provide assistance to researchers in finding, managing, interpreting and using relevant data. The UCI Libraries offer online services and instruction on research methods and information sources, increasing the availability of expert staff on the Internet and at the Jack Langson Library, the Science Library and the Forest J. Grunigen Medical Library. UCI Libraries also provide quality study spaces and critically select increasing amounts of print and electronic information to support the growing academic programs in all disciplines across campus. The collections include more than 2.6 million volumes and current subscriptions to more than 53,000 journals in electronic and print formats, as well as a wealth of manuscripts, microforms and graphic collections.

The libraries welcome more than 2.2 million visitors annually, and their Web pages are among the most frequently used on campus. Library instructional classes are provided to over 17,000 students and nearly 600 computers are available for public use.

The Langson Library holds general collections in the humanities, fine and performing arts, social sciences, social ecology and management, as well as special collections and government documents. It features a state-of-the-art Multimedia Resources Center, and a technology classroom for hands-on research instruction. The Science Library centralizes the science and technology collections for physical and biological sciences, medicine, computer science and engineering. The Science Library features an Interactive Learning Center and microcomputer laboratory. The Grunigen Library houses the clinical medical collection, including journals, reference and multimedia materials.

University Librarian Gerald J. Munoff
Since his arrival in 1998, Gerald J. Munoff has provided leadership for building the excellent research library required to support growing academic programs. He also has worked to forge academic partnerships with faculty and students. He founded SPIRIT, a distinctive program that reaches out to local high schools to prepare students for success in schools, work and life. More than 4,000 students have participated so far, discovering the value of library research and gaining lifelong learning skills. The business community also can purchase expert and timely information through the libraries’ custom services. The ASAP Information Service provides expert research and quickly delivers advanced information in a variety of subject areas.
