The UCI Buddhist Association - with support from the Office of the Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs, the Center for Asian Studies, the Samuel Jordan Center for Persian Studies & Culture, and the undergraduate program in religious studies - is hosting a series titled "Liberation Through Sight: Gaden Tsawa World Peace Tour" from Tuesday, Oct. 9, to Thursday, Oct. 11. Over the course of three days, the Tibetan Buddhist monks of India's Gaden Jangtse Monastery will create the Amitabha sand mandala (pictured), a diagram that represents the dwelling place, or celestial mansion, of a deity. The series will also include an opening ceremony, a meditation session with Tibetan physician Dr. Geshe Lobsang Tenzin, a butter sculpture workshop and a talk by Barbara Sarnecka, UCI associate professor of cognitive sciences, on Zen meditation. All events are free and open to the public.
