Mathematician-engineer Edriss Titi wins prestigious fellowship ยป

The Society for Industrial & Applied Mathematics has named UCI professor Edriss S. Titi one of 35 2012 fellows for his work on analytical and computational studies of nonlinear partial differential equations with applications to fluid mechanics and geophysics. The society works to ensure the strongest interactions between mathematics and other scientific and technological communities through membership activities, conferences, and publication of journals and books. Fellows are recognized for outstanding research in the field as well as their service to the larger community. They will be honored at the 2012 SIAM annual meeting this July in Minneapolis. Titi is a professor in UCI's Department of Mathematics and Department of Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering and is also on the faculty of the Weizmann Institute of Science in Israel. The recipient of numerous awards throughout his career, he recently was invited to give a keynote lecture at an International Union of Theoretical & Applied Mechanics symposium this July at England's Isaac Newton Institute for Mathematical Sciences.
