English professor named Guggenheim Fellow ยป

Andrea Henderson
Andrea Henderson, UCI professor of English, has been named a 2012 Guggenheim Fellow. Since 1925, the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation has annually offered fellowships to artists, scholars and scientists on the basis of impressive achievement in the past and exceptional promise for future accomplishment. Henderson's scholarly interests center on 18th and 19th century literature, visual art and science. Her article "Magic Mirrors: Formalist Realism in Victorian Physics & Photography" (Representations, winter 2012) reflects Henderson's current focus on the impact of mathematical principles on Victorian aesthetic theory. Her Guggenheim project, "Algebraic Art," is an exploration of the aesthetic implications of mathematical accounts of symbolism and formal coherence. Henderson is one of six University of California faculty members among 181 scholars named 2012 Guggenheim Fellows. To date, UC faculty have received more than 1,490 Guggenheim Fellowships.
