UCI doctor brings insider's perspective to new book on stuttering ยป
In his new book, Without Hesitation: Speaking to the Silence and the Science of Stuttering, Dr. Gerald Maguire - with co-author Lisa Gordon Wither - explores the medical condition from an insider's perspective: He's a physician who has stuttered since childhood and struggled to express himself with ease. Maguire is the founder and director of UCI's Kirkup Center for the Medical Treatment of Stuttering - currently the only facility in the world devoted exclusively to this field. He's also leading a nationwide clinical trial of the first medication developed specifically to treat stuttering. "Stuttering causes confusion in families, contempt in the uninformed and anguish in the 5 million Americans who find it impossible to speak without effort," Maguire says. "Hopefully, this book can shed light on and provide understanding for this struggle."Media Contact
